MS SAVIN Covers Claiborne Releases
Mississippi’s official program is the Mississippi Statewide Automated Victim Information and Notification service, called MS SAVIN, using VINE and VINELink. It can receive electronic records for county and state offenders. Supported events include release, facility transfer or temporary movement, escape or abscond, return to custody, and movement from county custody into MDOC or other custody.
Statewide service does not prove that every Claiborne County booking or old record appears. The live interface must show the specific person and reporting agency. A VINELink result is also not the same as the sheriff’s jail docket. The Claiborne County Sheriff is the custodian of the local booking and release entry. MDOC is the custodian for state confinement and community-corrections status. VINELink delivers an event based on data supplied by a participating source.

Claiborne VINELink Record Fields
Fields depend on what the reporting agency supplies. Read them together. A status without its agency can be misleading because “released” may mean only that one custodian ended control. The record may offer enough detail to distinguish a Claiborne County booking from an MDOC record, but it is not a certified release document.

VINELink is not a sentencing calculator. For a Mississippi state prisoner, the MDOC inmate search separately displays sentence and location information, including the exact prospective label “Tentative Release Date.” A tentative date does not show that release occurred. The county jail docket remains the stronger source for how a local booking ended.

Register for Claiborne Release Alerts

Claiborne Transfer Registration Link
The Registration Link is especially useful in Claiborne County because the sheriff does not publish a county recent-release page. MS SAVIN says a notification registration can follow a county offender who moves into MDOC or other custody. The resulting alert can reveal that the reporting agency recorded a custody change while the sheriff or MDOC supplies the formal confirmation.
Linkage matters most when “released from county custody” actually means transfer. If the Claiborne jail docket shows a penitentiary receipt, search MDOC and confirm that the notification registration carried to the state record. If the event names another custodian, check that agency rather than assuming community release. Contact MS SAVIN if the registration is missing or uncertain after the move.

Interpret Claiborne Release Notifications
A release or out-of-custody alert means the named reporting agency ended its recorded custody. It does not by itself show acquittal, dismissal, sentence completion, or that every custodian ended control. Check the event label, facility, and date. Then look for a transfer, detainer, or next record.

Multiple moves can produce multiple notifications. Save each event with the observation time, then call the agency when the sequence is unclear. For a local booking, ask the Claiborne sheriff for the jail-docket release or discharge line and authority. For a state record, ask MDOC about the state custody or supervision status.
Claiborne VINELink Release Limits
VINELink does not cover federal BOP custody. A federal person should be checked through the BOP locator, which can display a past release date and Released or no current location for records mainly from 1982 forward. That result shows only that BOP custody ended. Federal court supervision or transfer to another authority may continue.
Possible immigration custody belongs in ICE ODLS, not VINELink or MDOC. ICE states that ODLS covers current detainees and people released from ICE custody within its recent window. An exact-match miss outside that scope cannot reconstruct the history. Likewise, a missing VINELink result can reflect agency participation, historical scope, spelling, identifiers, or timing rather than proof of release.

Confirm Claiborne Release Events

Ask for the release manner, authority, date and time if recorded, and any receiving agency. If MDOC is shown, match the MDOC number, county of conviction, sentence data, location, and current state status.
